Seeing More Clearly With Lasik
LASIK surgery is the most popular refractive surgery in the United States and it has a remarkable success rate when it comes to helping patients see better. It’s one of the many surgeries you’ll find performed by Dr. Michael J. Collins, Founder and Medical Director of Collins Vision.
In this delicate surgery, a thin flap is made in the cornea. The flap is gently folded back, so the surgeon can reshape the cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and even astigmatism.
More than 96% of patients who have LASIK surgery are happy with the results. Lily Nunez is one of those happy patients. “I started having problems with my vision in the 4th grade,” she says, “I couldn’t see the blackboard and it was affecting my grades.” After a routine eye exam, she was given her first pair of glasses.
At the age of eleven, she ditched the glasses for contacts and successfully wore them into her late 20’s. Soon after that, she could no longer find comfortable contacts. “I changed brands, I tried different types, and nothing was working,” she recalls.
Lily was familiar with LASIK, had done her homework, and called Collins Vision for a consultation to see if she was a candidate. She was indeed.
Choosing an Eye Surgeon
When it comes to choosing an eye surgeon, Dr. Collins says, “The most important precaution you can take is to find a surgeon trained and qualified to confirm that the procedure is truly right for you.”
He says, “I see a fair amount of patients that should never have had a particular procedure, and I can tell you from experience that it is much easier to do the procedure the right way than to try and fix it.”
Furthermore, the idea that a discounted LASIK procedure is just as good as an expensive one is a myth according to Dr. Collins. “Differences in practice prices are due to the competence and size of the staff, the access to the surgeon, whether or not a blade is used, the quality of the lasers, and the level of pre-operative diagnostic imaging and testing involved in determining candidacy.”
Collins Vision does not cut costs when it comes to taking care of their patient’s vision. They offer the best and most comprehensive treatment available.
These are some of the many reasons why Lily went to Collins Vision. The day of surgery she was a little anxious. “It was really just fear of the unknown. The staff was amazing. They made me feel comfortable and walked me through everything.”
Once in the surgery room, she says, “Dr. Collins did an amazing job of explaining everything in great detail to me. He literally told me everything he was doing and it helped so much.”
As her anticipation began to build and the procedure was about to start, she remembers, “I grabbed the table. Then I felt someone touch my hand. They held it the entire time. It was a moment I won’t forget; how caring Dr. Collins and everyone was.”
As it turns out she experienced little discomfort, the procedure was fast, and when she sat up, Lily could see across the room. She says, “It was a little foggy, not blurry, but I could actually see the clock on the wall. That was major.”
The day after her LASIK surgery Lily says, “I woke up and could see the green trees, I could see the leaves and thought this is how life is supposed to be. Today I feel like nothing had ever happened as if all those years of glasses and contacts were erased from my memory. I could not be more happy.”
