Merry Christmas from Kay’s Hallmark
It’s one of the busiest times of the year for retailers, particularly those specializing in cards and gifts such as Kay’s Hallmark in Fort Myers.
Kay’s Hallmark has been a local favorite for decades. J.J. Ames bought it from his mother in 1997 and two years later relocated to the current spot on Gladiolus and McGregor Boulevard. J.J.’s partner at home and at work, wife Traci, has been in retail her whole life and takes great pride in designing and stocking the store with one-of-a-kind gifts as well as popular brands.
Although Hallmark is a big name, the company still has a mom and pop mentality according to Traci and that’s one of the many reasons she feels good about her family’s association. Hallmark is also family owned, with very few stipulations on running a store with its brand on the marque.
Kay’s is not your typical card store, it’s stocked with treasures fit for even the fussiest person on you gift list. Here you’ll find brands such as; Vera Bradley, Bourbon and Boweties, Willow Tree, Life is Good, Simply Southern, Swarovski and more. Some of the more popular items for the holidays are Yankee Candles and the Hallmark Keepsake ornaments. Traci says every year she sees many of the same families come in together, in search of these collectibles.
To help make your holiday shopping easier, she advises doing it early. In addition she says, “I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard, ‘I should’ve got it when I saw it.’ A lot of times we bring just one order in. We don’t always reorder, or it’s discontinued and we can’t get it back.” If you’re shopping for someone out of town, Kay’s offers the convenience of having a U.S. Postal Service on site. While they won’t pack your box, the supplies are here for you to do it yourself. Just add the card and it can be in the mail the same afternoon. Being in business for so long, the Ames have become a big part of their surrounding community. Many of their employees have been with them for years and have become family. Traci adds, “We love our customers too. It’s not just about buying stuff but getting to know them. It’s like a family thing with us and we feel very blessed.” You know that feeling you often get from watching those touching Hallmark holiday commercials on television? Traci says, “What you see in commercials, you get a glimpse of in the store, and you love it.”
