I was lucky enough to get a spot — and a table, considering how full the small dining room behind the takeout counter and kitchen was by 5:30 on a weeknight. Brace yourself for a very loud evening unless you choose to dine at one of the patio tables, where traffic whizzing by on Gateway Boulevard is slightly masked by greenery. Indoors there’s house music and oversized pictures of happy people playing with their food — dangling pizza slices over open jaws, stuffing giant meatballs in mouths and wearing spaghetti as a wig.
The menu features Italian-American favorites: oven-baked pizza, calzone and lasagna; sautéed meat and seafood in Parmigiana, Marsala and Francese sauces; meatballs and Bolognese. A half-dozen weekly specials leave room for variations, such as the recent offering of a lobster tail, shrimp and scallops sautéed in a sherry cream sauce and served over cheese ravioli.
